Yahoo goes into the deep web

Search deeper than ever before

Yahoo has announced a new service that will allow web users to search public and subscription online content sources even though for the most part these results don't normally appear in your average search.

The service, which is currently in beta, will offer the ability to search for personal subscription content found in the “deep web.” The deep web includes millions of access-restricted Web sites containing content that search engines typically cannot access.

Initial content providers that have been selected by Yahoo include the Financial Times content from FT.com in the UK, the Wall Street Journal Online in the US, Forrester Research Inc, New England Journal of Medicine, ConsumerReports.org, thestreet.com and the IEEE.

The service will also include content from Factiva, LexisNexis AlaCarte! pay-as-you-go, Thomson Gale and ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) will be included in the coming weeks.

Search engines are continuing to battle against each other by offering distinctive services.
