Reach out and touch somebody - from beyond the grave

11 March 2008 0:00 GMT / By Ian Hughes

So the worst happens: you're hit by a bus as you're coming back from picking up a mid-morning tall skinny mocha Frappuccino.

Your friends and family are devastated. The light of their lives has been snuffed out forever.

But thanks to this new "service", you can still tell them everything you wanted to tell them when you're dead and gone.

Once your appointed agent has sent in the correct "Death Advice PIN" (catchy) all the text messages, emails and audio recordings you handily pre-recorded when you foresaw your untimely demise, are sent winging their way to your nearest and dearest's inboxes.

Of course, quite what receiving a message from a newly-dead loved one will do to somebody as they log on and try to get on with their lives is anybody's guess. Talk about having the last word.

You have to really explore this site to see just how awful the whole idea is. It's probably well-meaning enough, but it's kind of wrong in that morbidly fascinating way.

I think I'll stick to séances to stay in touch. So much more atmospheric.
