Retrospecs for the iPhone and iPad is a photography app that no fan of old school gaming should go without. It turns any picture taken or from the gallery into a screengrab from a number of computers of yesteryear.

Want an 8-bit snap of Gran? Sorted.

Like Instagram, you take a picture or load one from the Photos library and then apply a filter. The independently developed app will then offer a selection of filters based on old games consoles and computers. There's a wide variety to choose from, including the Apple II, Apple Mac, Atari 2600 (VCS), Commodore 64 and ZX Spectrum. Even the blocky resolution of Teletext is available.

You can then choose dither patterns to get the exact effect you were looking for. Further options include low light compensation, vibrancy boost and a boost in contrast. All of which can be altered before saving the final result.

Retro gaming selfies are possible too as it can also use the front-facing camera. And you can share your end results to Twitter, Facebook and more through Apple's existing share button.

Retrospecs costs 69p and is available on the Apple iTunes App Store now.
