Sony has sold one million PlayStation 4s in the UK. Bwah, ha, ha!
That makes the next-generation console the fastest-selling PlayStation in the country since Sony started making consoles. And it's reached the magic figure thanks to pre-orders for the Destiny bundle, Pocket-lint was told during a launch event for the Activision game.
The sales data was assessed by games industry analyst GfK Chart Track and accounts for units actually sold to consumers, not just products shipped to retailers. The last global sales figure revealed by Sony - during Gamescom - was 10 million units.
"The demand for PS4 has been enormous, and we’re thrilled with the response from UK gamers," said Fergal Gara, SCEE's UK & Ireland managing director.
"From day one, our sole focus has been making PS4 the best place to play... and the PS4 experience will only get better in the months and years to come."
Destiny was launched for PS4 last night at a star-studded party. It is also available on Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC and promises to be one of the biggest-selling games of all time. Activision will certainly hope so, having reportedly spent over half-a-billion dollars on development, production and marketing of the Bungie-created game and prospective franchise.
