Acer has just announced a new member to its Aspire tablet family, the 8 W. It's an affordable way to get a tablet with the Windows 8.1 operating system.

The Acer Iconia 8 W comes with all the Windows greats built-in like MS Office 365 Personal, meaning Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook are all pre-installed.

The device is a 9.75mm thin tablet with a weight of 370g. It features a tactile rear, Acer says, for grip. The screen is an 8-inch 1280 x 800 resolution IPS display which delivers a meagre 189ppi. But with a 7mm bezel it looks fairly premium considering the cost.

Powering the Aspire 8 W is an 1.33GHz Intel Atom Z3735G Bay Trail-based quad-core processor. It also comes with microSD expansion, micro HDMI and, of course, Micro-USB for charging.

Acer claims the battery on the 8 W will last 8-hours on a charge even when using the dual camera to snap selfies or photos of the surroundings. The quality of those camera hasn't yet been announced which usually means we can expect something that's vaguely called HD on the rear and a low megapixel selfie camera on the front. Though at the price you can't expect much more.

Acer will begin selling the Aspire 8 W in the UK from £120 this November.
