Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Nook eBook reader edition tablet now on sale in US

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Nook, a collaborative tablet and eBook reading device from Samsung and Barnes & Noble, is now on sale in the US.

Available from Barnes & Noble stores or bn.com, the 7-inch device comes with $200 worth of content at no extra cost. A whole stack of bestselling books, magazines and TV shows will be free to download from the off, plus users get $5 of credit towards a purchase from the B&N online store.

The tablet is similar to the one released without the Nook suffix by Samsung earlier this year. However, instead of Samsung's TouchWiz user interface layered on Android 4.4 KitKat, it boots into the Nook UI.

This means that specifications include a 1200 x 800 screen, 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of storage space. But the tablet has a more family-oriented front end, with such benefits as Nook Profiles, to ensure each member has their own books, video and apps available to them and only them.

It is a Wi-Fi enabled device and also comes with a microSD card slot to increase storage space by up to a further 32GB.

Some might argue that you may as well spend your money on a regular Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 but as well as the $200 of free content, Barnes & Noble is offering a $20 instant rebate incentive. That means you can effectively get the tablet for $179 (around £107) online. It usually costs $199.

There's currently no word on whether either company plans to introduce it to the UK too.
