Well, we know that being an early adopter is expensive but this really takes the biscuit - even if it does let you see all the tiny crumbs in 1080p. Goldmund's Eidos 20 BD, aimed at audio-video purists, will set American consumers back a knee-trembling $16,900.

Claiming to be the first "high-end audio/video manufacturer" to offer a Blu-ray player, the new model "embodies the Goldmund high-tech refinement that has made the Swiss-based company a leader in the audiophile community for the last 30 years".

Signature tech includes the "AC-Curator" power supply circuit which dramatically improves picture and sound stability and dynamics, and the "Mechanical Grounding" construction which removes from the player mechanism spurious vibrations blurring the video signal and increasing jitter.

Oh - and just in case you needed one more reason to splash the cash - it does offer Goldmund's "Magnetic Damper," a device lowering the reading errors (good luck with those tricky Blu-ray discs), a feature that previously was exclusive to Goldmund's highest end devices. Orders are being taken now...
