Gamescom in Cologne is the biggest European videogames show by far and over the years, major publishers and indie developers alike have more and more considered it as important as E3 - some more than.

And this year's show brought us a stack of announcements and gameplay previews, including treats of others that are progressing in development. And we like, we like a lot.

That's why we've collated all of our own favourites that were revealed here in one place for you to enjoy.

Admittedly, owners of the current generation of games consoles, the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii U, will find less focus on their titles here. In the case of the Sony and Microsoft machines, that's because those companies' attentions have been solely on the next-generation of PS4 and Xbox One. And while Nintendo was at the show, it didn't really update with any new titles we hadn't already seen during E3 in Los Angeles.

But if you own a PS4 or Xbox One, or are hoping to get one for Christmas, you will find plenty here that should excite you as much as they excite us. Enjoy.
