When you watch a movie, what feeling does it give you? Yes, it obviously depends on the theme, the subject matter, the artistic direction. The music will perhaps, if you’ll pardon the pun, strike a chord. You will fall in love with some of the characters, and others will become the ones you love to hate.

But there’s one thing that you might notice at first: the colour scheme.

Think about some of your favourite films. Do they evoke a certain colour? The last three Stars Wars films, were undoubtedly warm, and sort of organ. Michael Mann’s Heat was definitely blue. Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels was kind of yellow.

If you have found yourself thinking like this, you're not alone, as moviesincolor.com shows.

This site takes famous scenes from movies and plots their colour palettes beneath each screen grab.

Not massively useful, unless you’re trying to decorate your home in the style of Pulp Fiction or Lord of the Rings, but it’s a strangely beautiful thing to behold.
