Nvidia Shield Tablet image leak reveals what the handheld gaming console might look like

An image of the upcoming Nvidia Shield Tablet has leaked online.

Notable leaker @evleaks has published a press image of the next Nvidia Shield on Thursday, giving the world a close look at the gaming tablet's front face in landscape view. You can see speaker grilles along the left and right sides of the display, a front-facing camera, and black and metal colours that are very reminiscent of the Tegra Note. And that's it. The leak did not reveal any details about specs or what's inside, though @evleaks indicated a 2014 release.

Rumours claimed earlier this month that the next-generation Nvidia Shield could be a tablet. While chipmaker Nvidia has been quiet about what's planned for the Nvidia Shield in 2014, several reports and leaks in recent weeks have suggested the company is currently developing a successor to the Shield. The new device will carry the familiar Shield branding, it appears, and is expected to include a 7.9-inch screen, 2GB of RAM, quad-core Tegra K1 CPU, and Unreal Engine 4.

The first-generation Shield is an Android Jelly Bean-powered handheld game console from Nvidia. It released last year and features a Tegra 4 processor as well as a 5-inch touchscreen display with a 1,280 x 720-pixel resolution. Another notable hardware feature is a control setup similar to a Dualshock controller, with two analog joysticks, a D-pad, and other buttons.
