Toshiba launches SD-P120DT widescreen portable DVD player

Please be upstanding for new upright effort

As well as other introductions to their DVD range we've covered, Toshiba has announced the more unusual SD-P120DT widescreen portable DVD player into their new range for spring.

The 11.8-inch player offers a more unusual form factor than the traditional clamshell-styled offerings with an upright design.

Fairly hefty for a portable - official weight is "to be confirmed" but we'd estimate around 6lbs - it's angled as a second or kid's room product or would be ideal for use in caravans or boats.

The display has a 793 x 493 resolution with a contrast ratio of 500:1 and brightness coming in at 300cd/m2. Battery life is said to be around 3 hours.

There's HDMI input, if you would want to bother for that screen, and memory card slots for SD, MMC, MS, MS Pro and xD cards.

The Freeview tuner means television as well as DVD can be watched - the latter of which in pretty much all the formats you'd need and there's also support for DivX playback as well as MP3, JPEG and WMA files.

Complete with battery pack, headphones, remote control and AC adaptor, the player will be on sale from April for £299.
