Toshiba has announced the Camileo Pro HD, "propelling its SD camcorder range into the world of high definition".

With a 5.0-megapixel CMOS sensor the little camcorder is able to shoot HD footage at a progressive resolution of 1280 x 720 which is encoded in the H.264/MPEG4 format.

Although there is only 128MB of internal memory, the Camileo Pro HD also supports up to 32GB SDHC memory cards, offering the ability to capture up to 16 additional hours of film.

With 3x optical and 4x digital zoom, the camcorder offers a credible option as a still camera and is able to produce still images at an equivalent of 11 megapixel resolution using interpolation.

Images can be viewed back on the 2.5-inch TFT LCD display, which rotates to a 270 degree angle.

Other features include HDMI output, voice recording and support for MP3 playback means it can be used as an MP3 player, should the need arise.

Pricing will be £149, and it will be on sale in April 2008.
