Getting married is no small undertaking. We’re not talking about the life-long (hopefully) commitment, we're talking about the actual wedding. It’s a logistical and financial minefield.

Mention the word "wedding" to suppliers like florists and photographers, and their fees suddenly seem a little higher. And finding somewhere to hold the celebration that satisfies everybody's needs can be a struggle. Oh, and then there’s the wedding gift list.

Is there a way to do it that means you don’t end up getting three toasters, half a dinner service and a set of towels from a department store and a lovely ceramic cat statue from Aunty Beryl?

Well, yes, there is.

One option, which has caused quite a stir in wedding circles, is, an online service that's just a little bit different. Happy couples set up a registry and ask their friends and family to pay for activities, experiences or contributions towards honeymoon travel and accommodation.

So, you could get a pony trek across Patagonia or a tandem bunjee jump from Aunty Beryl instead.

This idea takes all the work and worry out of one little detail from the big day. And that’s got to be a good thing.
