Uber to offer rides in Optimus Prime himself, this week in three US cities
The new Transformers film is premiering later this month. But there's no need to drive your car to the cinema. Just request an Autobot through the Uber app.
But you won't get to ride in any old sentient robot from the planet Cyberton. You'll be able to hop in the cab of the main protagonist from the fictional universe of Transformers. That's right. Optimus Prime. Uber wants you to "get ready for the ride of your life", because the Autobots are "on the move and this is your chance to roll with a robot in disguise".
An actual Optimus Prime semi-truck decked out in the classic blue and chrome design with reddish flames will be available upon request in Dallas, Texas on 16 June from 1 pm to 7 pm. It'll also be in Phoenix, Arizona on 19 June from 1 pm to 7 pm and Los Angeles, California from 1 pm to 7 pm. Simply open the Uber app, then select the Autobots option, and proceed with setting your pickup location. When done, tap "Roll out!"
"If you’re lucky enough to make contact with Optimus, he’ll roll out to your location for a 15-minute experience," announced Uber on Tuesday through a blog post. "Keep in mind: There’s only one Optimus Prime, so making contact will be difficult and may take many tries. But don’t give up!"
Transformers: Age of the Extinction will debut on 27 June in US. It stars Mark Wahlberg in the lead role, and it is directed by Michael Bay and executive produced by Steven Spielberg.
