Brace yourselves: Tetris is coming to Microsoft and Sony's new-generation consoles.
France-based video game developer Ubisoft has announced the next installment in the Tetris franchise. The new tile-matching puzzle game is called Tetris Ultimate, and it will release later this year as a digital download for Microsoft's Xbox One and Windows PC as well as Sony's PlayStation 4.
Ubisoft said it would release Tetris Ultimate - which was developed in collaboration with The Tetris Company and Alexey Pajitnov (the game's original creator) - to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Tetris. The first Tetris launched on 6 June 1984. However the PC version of Tetris Ultimate won't release until autumn.
Tetris Ultimate will feature new modes, features, and visuals. Specifically, it will allow one to four players to battle each other in six different game modes called Marathon, Endless, Ultra, Sprint, Battle, and Power-Up Battle.
Ubisoft, The Tetris Company, and Pajitnov will show off Tetris Ultimate at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo. E3 kicks off next week. Pocket-lint will be at the annual tradeshow and will hopefully experience some hands-on time with the upcoming Tetris video game.
