Although it was no secret that Forza Horizon 2 is in development, Microsoft officially confirming its existence prior to the expected E3 unveiling is a surprise. At its Xbox media briefing in Los Angeles, the title was confirmed to be released on 30 September 2014.

Horizon 2 will be available on both Xbox One and Xbox 360 and will be an open-world racer in much the same mould as the first in the series.

Like before, Forza Horizon 2 will be developed by British studio Playground Games with help from keeper of the Forza flame Turn 10. Ralph Fulton from the studio was on hand at the briefing to reveal additional details about the game, including that your existing Forza Horizon drivatar is already learning the tracks of the yet-to-be-released game. Cool.

There will be numerous real-world cars to drive, including the 2015 Lamborghini Huracan, although this time the action switches from the US to Southern Europe. And a music festival will be the central event around which the game will revolve.
