Facebook is introducing a new feature allowing users of the Facebook app to identify music, movies and TV information for sharing.

Using your smartphone's microphone, you'll be able to capture the moment and share it, with the Facebook app making the identified song or TV programme info available.

Working in a similar way to the popular Shazam app, you could be standing in a bar, hear a song you love and share that to Facebook.

There will be an icon in the corner of your status update screen to show that it's automatically trying to identify what you're listening to or watching.

Before you panic, it's all entirely optional and you can easily turn the feature off and Facebook won't post automatically on your behalf, you'll still have to add that information to a status update.

When sharing a song, there will be a 30-second clip available for those browsing your timeline and for TV, episode and season details will be added, so spoilers can be avoided.

The new feature will be coming to the Android and iOS app in the coming weeks but will initially only be available in the US.
