Netflix UK increases monthly cost to £6.99 for new customers

Netflix has confirmed that the price of its monthly subscription will go up for new users.

In an email to subscribers, the company confirmed that the price would be going up, but as a thank you to current subscribers, not for them.

"In order to continue adding more films and TV programmes, we are increasing our price from £5.99 to £6.99 for new members," the company said.

"As a thank you for being a member of Netflix already, we guarantee that your plan and price will not change for two years."

At present, the UK Netflix website still lists £5.99 as the sign up monthly fee, but we expect that to change shortly.

Netflix has previously warned that the price might increase. It also plans to raise the price of the US service by "one or two dollars".

"Price is guaranteed so long as you remain a member on your current plan," added Netflix.

This suggests that as soon as current subscribers leave they will automatically go on to the new pricing structure if they rejoin; something that many customers regularly do in-between binging on TV series.
