D-Link Wi-Fi Smart Plug gives control over your home appliances from anywhere in the world

As part of its new assault on the connected home, D-Link has announced a Wi-Fi Smart Plug that links with iPhone, iPad and Android applications to allow you to control your lighting or other appliance from anywhere you have an internet signal.

The DSP-W215 Wi-Fi Smart Plug sits between your plug socket and an electronically powered appliance or light. The mydlink app for smartphones or tablets connects to it whether you are at home and connected to your network or out and about.

It offers the ability then to switch on or off the device or lighting system remotely, and create schedules for when you are away or if you want to have the appliance working for when you get back. Overheating protection will also automatically turn off any overheating appliances, as rated by its internal thermal sensor.

In addition, the Smart Plug monitors power consumption of connected devices to give you handy read-outs on your mobile device.

The D-Link Wi-Fi Smart Plug (DSP-W215) is currently only available in the US for $49.99. However, considering the company rolls out all of its technology across multiple regions in time, we expect to see it in the UK in the not too distant future too.

US consumers can check out more about the plug at dlink.com.
