Buffalo Technology has launched what they claim is the first 500GB portable external hard drive, the HD-PS500U2, into the market.

Available from March, the 500GB MiniStation TurboUSB is a 2.5-inch hard drive aimed at users wanting a portable device to store large amounts of data, including music, images and/or approximately 500 films.

The entire MiniStation TurboUSB range is compatible with all Windows systems (2000, XP and Vista) and all Mac OS X, including Leopard.

Other features include Buffalo's TurboUSB technology, a wrap-around cable, armoured outer case and shock-absorbent internal design, Memeo AutoBackup software and Secure Lock Ware Encryption software for Windows as well as support for Time Machine.

With a limited two-year warranty, the MiniStation TurboUSB range will be available from on and offline retailers for £207, plus VAT.
