Control freaks required. No scruples necessary

18 February 2008 0:00 GMT / By Ian Hughes

Two schools of thought on this one: the next generation in reality entertainment or the creepiest thing we've seen in a while.

A Mod is no longer a skinny bloke in a green parka riding a Vespa, it is an action that you submit for a "Modstar" (generally a hapless New Yorker) to perform live on the net. Submissions are pooled and then voted on by the site's members so the consensus rules.

You might think that would work as some kind of built-in quality control, but the poor Modstars still end up having to do some weird and downright demeaning stuff in order entertain the baying masses tuned-in around the world.

Apparently "controlling people is fun" so this site should be a riot.

We just think it's weird.
And scary.
And probably going to be very, very popular.

Go figure.
