While the HTC One (M8) is taking the limelight at HTC launch events worldwide, the company is also launching a Google Play Edition packing pure Android 4.4.2 KitKat.
The Google Play Edition will pack all the hardware of the HTC One (M8) just without the Sense 6.0 skin. It has a price tag of $699 on the US Google Play Store where it will soon be available to pre-order.
The Android mobile will come with the same Duo Camera features through HTC's API, but is essentially a core Android experience. So users will be able to get that extra depth information from the two sensors, making for a better photo. That's achieved using the phone's BSi 1/3-inch sensor, 2.0um pixel size and f/2.0 28mm lens, all capable of 1080p video.
The phone is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor running at 2.3GHz and backed by 2GB of RAM. There will be 16GB and 32GB storage options both with microSD expansion that supports up to 128GB cards.
The HTC One (M8) Google Play Edition will be 4G LTE capable and comes with the latest 802.11ac Wi-Fi. And staying connected should be easy thanks to the 2,600mAh battery.
And at a later date, should you wish to get some of the Sense 6.0 features on board too, you'll even be able to download BlinkFeed. Almost too good to be true.
