The call of the sea. You can hear it at this time of year. Summer is just around the corner and the thought of a day on the beach will start to appeal to many.

And there are traditions involved in a trip to the seaside, no matter where in the world you are.

Dipping your toes in the surf. Collecting seashells and exploring the rock pools. Writing the names of your nearest and dearest or drawing pretty patterns in the sand. And it’s this last one that might make you think that you might need to put a bit more effort in to.

Andres Amador is an artist who makes any beach he visits his canvas and the results are simply breathtaking.

Using a rake and his extraordinary vision he traces out the most intricate and beautiful designs in the sand, on such a scale that it’s really only aerial photography that can reveal the true wonder of his creations.

This is wonderful stuff that will leave you pondering the nature of so much of the more permanent art that we see every day. This is so fleeting as the tide seeks to erase all traces of what you see, that its effect is somehow more lasting.
