Sky plans to use new EPG to help you decide what to watch next

Sky is set to offer a new recommendations service for Sky+ customers later this summer, following the rollout of its new Electronic Programme Guide (EPG).

The new feature will recommend and suggest content to watch based on what you have saved in on your box.

In a demo of the new feature, the company showed us that those who had watched Pitch Perfect would be recommended things like Definitely Maybe, while Mad Men fans would be recommended other big hitting US dramas like Game of Thrones and True Detective.

The new feature will work off an algorithm already live on the company's apps Sky has confirmed to Pocket-lint at a behind-closed-doors preview event of the new feature and the new EPG, which will be rolling out to the company's 8 million boxes around the UK.

The new EPG will give a new homepage screen that will offer catch-up and on-demand services on the same level as live TV, in a shift that reflects the growing trend of customers watching what they want, when they want, rather than depending on linear programming.
