Angry Birds Epic for iOS, Android and WP8 takes on Final Fantasy and South Park: Stick of Truth

Rovio is launching a new Angry Birds game on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch in Canada and Australia initially, with a global rollout which also includes Android and Windows Phone 8 versions to follow later this year.

Angry Birds Epic features the same cast of feathered friends and bad piggies, but transports them into a turn-base role-playing game, much like the Final Fantasy series or the recently launched South Park: The Stick of Truth for Xbox 360 and PS3.

There will be an extensive crafting system in the new game too, writes Kotaku, and from the screengrabs that have appeared so far, it could well be the most intriguing new Angry Birds game since Angry Birds Star Wars. It will certainly offer a completely new mobile experience than the rest of the franchise.

Angry Birds Epic will hit iTunes in Canada and Australia this week as part of its "soft launch". For further rollout details, watch this space.
