Microsoft releasing Surface 2 Power Cover with built-in battery on 19 March

Microsoft's online store shows it will make the Power Cover available for the Surface 2, Surface 2 Pro, and original Surface Pro on 19 March, after revealing it in September 2013.

The Power Cover, available for $199.99 on the Microsoft Store in the US, brings the classic laptop keyboard, a screen cover, and 70 per cent more battery life to the Surface line.

The Power Cover has all the standard features of a classic QWERTY keyboard, including a full row of function keys (F1-F12), Windows shortcut keys, media controls, and a trackpad.

The keys are disabled when the cover is flipped back over the screen, and when closed, the Power Cover shuts down your display to preserve battery life and helps protect the screen from bumps and scratches.

At $199, the Power Cover can be seen as pricey but if you're looking for a bit more typing productivity and battery life on your Surface, it may be for you.

The US Microsoft Store is now accepting pre-orders. The Power Cover isn't available in the UK as of yet.
