Blockbuster won’t die hard, it’s doing a Dawn of the Dead and returning to prove you can live twice
Just when you thought Blockbuster had received the last nail in its coffin, the entertainment chain has reappeared.
Since shutting down in December 2013 Blockbuster has been licensed by Dish Network Corporation. The company plans to rebrand its Crash Entertainment Group shops to Blockbuster while opening 10 new stores in the UK.
The new Blockbuster will not only operate with physical shops but will also offer a by-mail DVD service starting by the end of 2014. It will also operate the streaming Blockbuster on Demand service that's available to Virgin Media TiVo customers.
"This is good news for Blockbuster customers in the UK, as consumer demand is clearly moving to digital distribution of video entertainment," said Dish boss Joseph P. Clayton. "We expect to leverage that brand as we continue to expand our digital offerings."
