Nike and Apple have only had eyes for each other for years. But it looks like that's about to change as Nike has begun advertising for Android SDK developers.

Until now Nike has used iOS as the only mobile platform compatible with its kit like the FuelBand SE or running trainer sensors. This has mainly been due to the Bluetooth LE (low energy) funtionality offered by Apple. But now Android KitKat has added in Bluetooth LE connectivity Nike seems to be ready to join the Android army.

The listing is looking for nine Android developers to join Nike. One is a job working on the Nike+ API team to build an Android SDK: “For use in any Android application that integrates with Nike+," to help build the "future of activity measurement for internal and external clients".

The important part is that the job is for someone who will build an Android SDK. Current Nike apps use the Android developer kit. This will be a new Nike Android SDK to allow Android devices and third-party movement sensors to use Nike. We could even see an Android-specific app similar to Move for the iPhone 5S.

This should be an interesting year for Nike and Android.
