Qualcomm Snapdragon 602A to power in-car Android experience

As Android comes to a host of cars, Qualcomm has announced its Snapdragon 602A chip made specifically for in-car entertainment. It packs plenty of power but still meets the car industry requirements for temperature, longevity and more.

The chip keeps cars connected via both 3G and 4G LTE support along with Bluetooth LE 4.0 and 802.11ac dual-band Wi-Fi. It will also be sufficiently powerful to control your car entertainment system, with enough grunt to send multiple video streams to different screens in your car.

The 602A is smart enough to run facial recognition support so your car could, technically speaking, start by a simple look and gesture. Indeed gesture recognition could offer an easier and safer way of controlling the car when voice inevitably fails.

The Snapdragon 602A will offer improved 3D navigation, cloud-based software and mobile phone integration. And, of course it will support Android in-car as well as QNX.

Expect to hear more from specific car manufacturers as Android in-car begins to roll out.
