Apple, like a big fruit Santa, has announced that its super-powerful Mac Pro desktop computer will be available to buy from tomorrow, Thursday 19 December.
The completely redesigned aluminium enclosed Mac Pro now sits in an R2-D2 like pod built around a unified thermal core. But it’s not just about new looks, it’s also pushing out some serious power.
The Apple Mac Pro sports either 4-core, 6-core, 8-core, or brain melting 12-core Intel Xeon processors running at Turbo Boost speeds of up to 3.9GHz. For graphical grunt the two AMD FirePro GPUs mean eight times more graphical power than the previous Mac Pros. Also the often unsung PCIe flash storage will mean ten times faster read speeds. Along with ECC DDR3 RAM it will make editing 4K video a doddle.
For the full spec-porn show head over to Apple, but be prepared - all those numbers do add up. The starting price of a Mac Pro is £2,500, and that’s without a screen or peripherals. Hence the Pro in the title then.
