Beyoncé's visual album sells 828,773 copies in three days, becomes fastest-selling album on iTunes
Superstar Beyoncé Knowles surprised fans last week by releasing a new "visual album" with no build-up or promotion, and now it's become the fastest-selling album ever on the iTunes store.
The album - called simply, Beyoncé - landed just three days ago and has already sold 828,773 digital copies worldwide. Beyond smashing iTunes records, the album reached global success by becoming No. 1 in 104 countries, according to an announcement from Apple.
Beyoncé was released exclusively on Apple's iTunes - available in 119 countries - at midnight on 13 December, with 14 new songs and 17 music videos. Vanity Fair reported that more than 80,000 copies were bought within three hours.
The album is unique because all the music videos were produced and filmed before the album’s release. They are available for purchase with their corresponding songs via iTunes (hence the "visual album" description). Previews of the videos are also available on YouTube via Beyoncé's Vevo channel.
