Yahoo has inked a deal with Vevo to provide the music video collective's 75,000 music videos to its Yahoo Screen and omg! services in the UK. The deal will be a syndication, giving Yahoo users the ability to stream the VEVO music videos on their mobile and desktop devices.
The deal follows Vevo launching a rebranded website this month, as it pushes across the web to be the go-to music video provider. Vevo and Yahoo are no strangers given the two already have partnerships in France, Spain and Italy. Vevo is made up of Universal Music Group (UMG), Google, Sony Music Entertainment, and Abu Dhabi Media.
The deal makes sense for Yahoo, which is trying to become the media centre of the web. It wants users to be pushed on to its web pages to watch the latest from Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus, rather than YouTube.
