Back pain is the second most common reason people visit their doctors, after the common cold. Lumoback, the first product from Lumo Bodytech, hopes to help change that.

Using a wearable sensor that sits in an elastic waistband, Lumoback connects via Bluetooth to your iPhone to monitor your lower back. If you're supposed to be seated upright but slouch from the lower back you'll get a gentle vibration to remind you to correct your posture. But the tracking goes further.

Lumoback will also track your daily movements while sitting, standing, walking, running or sleeping. The app will track steps taken, calories burned, time standing, time sitting and the number of times you stand up each day. You'll even get a posture score at the end of the day.

With lots of articles currently revealing studies that show sitting is linked to cholesterol increase this sensor could help those who want to get out of the chair more often, as well as those with back problems.

Monisha Perkash, CEO and co-founder at Lumo Bodytech, says: "Lumoback is highly sensitive at measuring lower back spinal posture. By correcting lower back posture, Lumoback can help correct many cases of poor neck and upper back posture and can be part of a programme to relieve back pain and improve personal health and wellness."

The Lumoback is on sale now from Apple stores for £130 and will work with iPhone 5S, 5C, 5, 4S, iPad (3rd and 4th gen), iPad Mini and iPod Touch (5th gen).
