TDK touts 100Gb Blu-ray disc

Blu-ray gets bigger

Reports are coming through on the news wires that TDK has managed to squeeze a 100GB recordable Blu-ray disc.

Announced in the Japanese-language newspaper Nihon Keizai Shimbun the new disc will be made up of four layers each holding 25Gb.

According to the article, TDK has also doubled the recording speed to now up to 72Mbit/s.

Last week Toshiba announced a 45Gb HD DVD that was only read-only.

There is no information yet when the 100GB Blu-ray discs will hit the market.
