Brits can buy a Nokia Lumia 1020 this holiday shopping season and get one year of Netflix free of charge along with their purchase, according to the latest news.
The Financial Times reported that Nokia plans to offer the Netflix promotion in the UK to Vodafone subscribers willing to buy one of its latest Windows Phone devices, even though the company is in the middle of selling its handset arm to Microsoft.
The move is part of an effort by Nokia to boost sales and profits, which have steadily fallen in recent years (and because the company is still anxious to earn on its business).
As for why the UK is lucky enough to have a chance at this promotion, Windows Phones apparently make up 10 per cent of the market there. That might not seem like a lot - but it certainly blows the top off the 4 to 5 per cent market share globally.
Nokia will allegedly shoulder the cost of the promotion, though Netflix is eager to expand into Europe and might cover part of the promotion's expense too. None of that really matters to you, though. All that matters is that you will be able to simultaneously watch re-runs of Breaking Bad on Netflix and snap mammoth photos with your new 41-megapixel sensor.
Update: Vodafone has updated its website, confirming the promotion. Customers can buy a Nokia Lumia 625 (6 month subscription), Nokia Lumia 925 (6 month subscription) or a Nokia Lumia 1020 (12 month subscription) either online, in store or over the phone - and then they can get Netflix for a year for free. The offer runs from 1 October to 31 December 2013.
