Orange bring TV to 3G mobiles

Orange on Monday will be launching a TV-on-the-mobile service that will allow customers signed up to its 3G service and in a 3G area to watch news, sport and entertainment programmes on their phone.

Running over Orange's 3G network, the service has an initial line-up of nine channels including ITN News, CNN, Cartoon Network. Special Big Brother and Celebrity Love Island channels have also been developed.

The service differs from previous attempts by actually streaming the content 24/7 rather than asking users to download a set programme length.

Orange TV will initially be available on the Nokia 6680 from Orange, with further handsets to follow throughout the year. Customers simply download the TV application for free from Orange World, then pay a subscription of £10 per month to watch 20 hours of the channels.

3 has also announced that it will be offering its customers access to the Special Big brother broadcasts as well however at a slightly more expensive offering of 75p per minute. It's service will be launching on the first day of the show - the 27th May.
