Cut the Rope 2 coming for Christmas

One of the most successful game apps of all time, Cut the Rope, is to get an official sequel before the end of the year. Developer ZeptoLab claims that the entirely new game with "re-imagine the universe of Om Nom".

It promises new twists on the gameplay, never before seen characters, interactive environments and a new storyline. The levels will still be physics-based, but the developer hasn't revealed whether Om Nom or the new cast will still be chasing after candy.

"We remain dedicated to our mission: examining the science of fun. That means building experiences that players love," said Misha Lyalin, CEO of ZeptoLab. "Cut the Rope 2 is a massive step forward for the game. Amazing graphics, gameplay and characters drive a brand new experience that fans are going to love."

The original Cut the Rope has been downloaded more than 400 million times. ZeptoLab has also revealed that, in the first half of 2013, it reached 60 million active monthly users.

There have been a couple of sequels of sorts in the shape of Cut the Rope: Experiments and Cut the Rope: Time Travel, but Cut the Rope 2 will be the official all-new follow-up.

There is no mention of which formats the new game will launch on, but if iOS and Android are not involved we'll eat our hats, whether they are dangled from the ceiling or not.
