Olympus has kicked off the year with its spring range of cameras, but has also unveiled a new recorder.

The portable Olympus LS-10 is claimed to deliver the "highest quality sound no matter the time and place – be it at a concert, a breaking news story, or out in nature".

It delivers linear PCM recording capabilities and sampling rates of up to 24bit/96kHz.

The LS-10 Linear PCM Recorder also incorporates a high-sensitivity, noise reduction stereo microphone and enables high-end sampling rates with PCM recording quality. This means that as well as WMA and MP3 file formats, WAV is also supported.

Recordings can be played back using the built-in stereo speaker.

Olympus adds that the device has 2GB internal memory as well as an SD Card slot – compatible with SDHC Cards up to 32GB.

Designed for used with both Windows and Macintosh operating systems, the LS-10 comes with Cubase 4 LE music production software from Steinberg. This provides features such as multi-track recording, MIDI support and a digital mixer.

The Olympus LS-10 Linear PCM Recorder is accompanied by a carrying case, USB cable, audio cable and two microphone windshields.

It will be available from the end of January for £269.99.
