Grand Theft Auto iFruit lands, a companion app for GTA V that's also a virtual pet

Do you remember Tamagotchi, the hand-held digital pet that became the "it" toy of the 1990s? Well, Grand Theft Auto V has a companion app that's kind of the same thing.

As EuroGamer first reported, GTA V has a dog in it. He is Lamar's Rottweiler, called Chop. Chop now has his own smartphone app on Apple's App Store that weighs 444MB.

Titled Grand Theft Auto: iFruit, the free iOS app essentially makes Chop a virtual pet. Gamers can pet him, feed and water him, play fetch and tug-of-war or teach him tricks. Caring for Chop will unlock additional abilities.

iFruit will also let gamers order new cars and reserve custom licence plates for both Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online, among other things. There are many other features packed with iFruit, really.

The basic message is that publisher Rockstar Games wanted to give gamers more ways to experience GTA V without actually playing GTA V.
