Amazon redesigns Kindle Fire HD and shows it off in public

The latest Kindle Fire HD from Amazon is shaping up to be one impressive slate, if rumours are accurate. And now, thanks to a BGR exclusive, we can get a look at it.

The 7-inch HD tablet is on show here although there is word that we can also expect an 8.9-inch model to launch. Expect the new design to feature a more angular shape, redesigned buttons and stereo speakers moved to the top of the tablet. The band across the back has been removed for a smooth back broken up only by the Amazon logo.

The specs to expect are a 1920 x 1200 (323ppi) resolution display, 2GHz Snapdragon 800 quad-core, 2GB RAM, optional data connectivity, Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and sizes of 16GB, 32GB or 64GB storage. No word on the camera, but if it's the same as the 8.9-inch model is rumoured to have you can expect 8-megapixels. The 8.9-inch model should come with a similarly high res screen at 2560 x 1600 pixels (339pp).

Both models are supposed to be lighter and more comfortable than current Fire tablets. The 7-inch slate should be here in the next few weeks while the 8.9-inch version is expected to ship in November.
