Microsoft began discounting the Surface RT in multiple stores around the globe last month, but now the company has reportedly decided to also lower the cost of Surface RT bundles and Touch Covers, as well as extend a once-temporary price cut for the Pro.

Windows Phone Central reported recently that the Surface RT bundle, which includes both the Surface RT and a black Touch Cover, will now cost $50 (£32) less than originally. And that's a permanent drop, the report stressed. Starting 30 August, the bundles will cost $399 (£257) and $499 (£321) for the 32GB and 64GB versions, respectively.

Consumers can't choose a color for the Touch Cover when buying a bundle, though they will save $30 (£19) by purchasing the Surface RT and Touch Cover together. But that's not all: Microsoft has lowered the Touch Cover from $119 (£77) to $79.99 (£52). So, for those of you who already own a Surface RT and don't need the bundle, the Touch Cover is now more affordable.

As for that temporary Surface Pro promotion set to end Thursday, it also looks to be permanent. Microsoft reduced the price of the Surface Pro by $100 (£75) in the US and several other countries on 4 August. The promotion was supposed end on Thursday, but Neowin reported that the deal is here to stay. Microsoft’s Surface website still shows the reduces prices; the Surface Pro will remain at $799 (£603) for the 64GB model and $899 (£703) for the 128GB model.

Pocket-lint has contacted Microsoft to confirm the price changes, and we'll update when more information becomes available.

Microsoft has revealed in recent weeks that it built too many Surface RTs, suggesting the company didn't sell as many devices as it wanted. The company is likely doling out price cuts for Surface Pro, Surface RT, Surface RT bundles and accessories in an attempt to lure consumers.
