As part of its Gamescom 2013 press event in Cologne, Germany, Sony trumped Microsoft in announcing an actual street date for its next-generation console. The PS4 will be available in the UK and the rest of Europe from 29 November. The US will get it a couple of weeks earlier, on 15 November.
Both dates comply with Sony's constant promise of "holidays 2013" and put a marker in the sand for when we might see the Xbox One released.
The PS4 will be launched in the UK at £349, while Europe will get it for 399 euros, the US for $399.
Sony also used its press event to reveal that every PS4 bought will come with The Playroom pre-installed. The game/experience is a family affair that uses the new PlayStation Eye camera combined with the new DualShock 4 to create fun events for young and old alike.
It also revealed that in the UK it has signed a broadband partnership with Virgin Media. More will be revealed on what that will entail in due course.
