Zappar and Pedigree Books partner for AR annuals, Angry Birds, Cut The Rope and more
Book publisher Pedigree Books has joined forces with British augmented app company Zappar to release a series of "Super Interactive Annuals 2014".
Several key licensed titles - including those based on big hit apps and games Angry Birds, Annoying Orange, Cut the Rope and Sonic the Hedgehog - will have Zappar codes on selected pages. Readers can then point the Zappar app on an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch or Android device at those pages to unlock exclusive interactive content.
Extended character profiles, extra stories and puzzles and games will be on offer, plus there is a feature where you can overlay characters on a real-world backdrop and snap that as a picture.
As the Zappar codes are fairly small on each page, and are relevant to approximately only 20 per cent of a book, kids without access to a smartphone or tablet can also read each annual as normal.
"Working with Zappar on these new titles has allowed us to offer our customers something completely new and fresh. We are very excited about the retail prospects for this range, which will stand out on the shelves and ensure we remain the market leader in annuals," said Matthew Reynolds, publishing and sales director at Pedigree.
The Zappar application can be downloaded for free from the iTunes App Store and Google Play for iOS and Android devices respectively. The Super Interactive Annuals 2014 are available from Asda, WH Smith, Tesco and other stores now.
