Google TV is not dead, Chromecast not a replacement

Google yesterday unveiled Chromecast, a 2-inch dongle that beams video from device to TV, leaving many wondering if Google would soon kill off its fledgeling Google TV product.

Nope. Google TV's Warren Rehman confirmed on Thursday via Google+ that Google TV is not going anywhere. Chromecast isn't considered a replacement product - and Google TV will even support Chromecast soon.

"I'm still gainfully employed working on +Google TV - no it isn't dead, and yes it will support Cast," wrote Rehman, noting partners -like the ones announced at Google I/O in May - are continuing to launch new Google TV-enabled HDTVs and boxes.

"We believe there is ample room for both products to exist and succeed," Rehman added.

There is no word yet on when Google TV will update with support for Chromecast, but keep checking back as we learn more.
