Tumblr's mobile apps add new search and discovery tools, first updates since Yahoo acquisition
Tumblr, the social network that allows users to post multimedia and other content to a short-form blog, updated on Tuesday with new tools that bolster search and explore capabilities found within its iPhone, iPad and Android apps.
In a post on the official Tumblr blog, Tumblr said it had upgraded the apps to help mobile users find more stuff they love. For instance, users can now check what's trending and get suggested blogs for whatever they search.
Tumblr's changelog on the App Store and Google Play specifically stated that the update to mobile added the ability to search tags and blogs, explore trending tags and blogs and follow recommended blogs for any searched tag.
Yahoo bought Tumblr in May, and promptly promised the world that it would not "screw up" the microblogging platform. Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer also professed that Tumblr would operate independently, signalling that the product, brand and service will continue as normal under CEO David Karp.
The new social and discovery enhancements in Tumblr for iOS and Android are the first updates since Yahoo closed its $1.1 billion acquisition of Tumbler last month.
