The Asus Padfone 2 will go on sale in the Carphone Warehouse this week. The device, which features a 4.7-inch Android powered smartphone that can dock with a 10-inch tablet, is the second attempt by Asus to combine two pieces of technology into one.

The Padfone 2 impressed us in our review with its excellent docking system and clever use of software tweaks, but fell down when it came to matching both the smartphone and tablet competition.

The unique thing about the Padfone 2 is that you can get both a phone and a tablet on one single tariff, rather than paying for two separate mobile plans. Despite its retailing at £599, this could end up saving you quite a bit of cash in the long run.

The phone is listed as free on 24-month tariffs from £33 a month on the Carphone Warehouse website.
