Sony and Boku introduce carrier billing in UK for SNE and PlayStation

Sony Network Entertainment and Sony Computer Entertainment have joined with Boku to introduce carrier billing in the United Kingdom, enabling users to top up their mobile phone account wallets to buy content from Sony while on the go.

The new feature is possible through Boku's mobile payments platform, and it will work with all major UK mobile network operators. The primarily goal is to streamline the mobile-purchasing process for users who want to buy downloadable games, add-ons, themes, movies, TV shows and subscriptions for Music Unlimited from the PlayStation Store or Sony Entertainment Network.

In a press release, Gordon Thornton, the vice-president of Sony Network Entertainment Europe, said: "We are always looking at new ways to give our customers more choice in terms of content, accessibility and payment methods, and are pleased to be able to offer the option of mobile operator billing, which are becoming more and more popular."

Users can add funds through Sony's account management website or the PlayStation Store on PS3. To do so on the PS3, choose "mobile" as the payment option, enter a phone number and then authorise the transaction via SMS.
