Generally speaking, unless you're a vegetarian of course, chicken forms a big part of the average person's diet. It's a great source of protein and a staple on most menus. This is probably because it's so cheap to buy.

Ever wondered why that might be? If you've been following Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's TV campaign this week you'll have a better idea than most.

95% of the chicken we buy for meat come from intensively farmed sources. This means the birds are reared in cramped conditions, often never seeing daylight.

Free range eggs have been widely available and increasingly popular with consumers - this site aims to do the same for the broiler birds.

Free range chickens live happier, healthier lives before ending up on your plate. And they taste immeasurably better. Like with eggs, it might cost a bit more, but the more we insist on free range products, the quicker the prices will drop.

It's time to shop with your heart and your head rather than just your wallet.

  • Tried to enter the site again today, (13/01/09) it was closed for "maintenance!"

Unfortunately, I have recently threatened to "name and shame"certain members from this site.

I have been on this site previously believing it to be a "peoples'site" for campaigning over the plight of these poor birds.

How wrong I was! The forum is predominately run by a group of egotistical and very conceited people.

One who claims to be an ex-teacher ,is seen to ridicule a young girl, who has Educational Special Needs. He claims her poem regarding these poor birds is a "PIECE OF CRAP" , just because of her grammar and spelling. Then when I challenged him, he proceeded to give me a "master class" over my grammar and spelling, to the point where he became downright personal.

The site is very "anti-children" and refers to them as, illiterate, meaningless and only out to steal cars and annoy/rob OAPS.

On a forum regarding the exclusion of children, it states children cannot contribute to a meaningful debate, only for a "so called adult" to compare the disabled girl with a chicken! DOES THIS CONSITUTE A MEANINGFUL DEBATE?

The teacher even claims he could do a better job at campaigning than the Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's TV campaign.!.

I AM REALLY DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS SITE. I have changed my buying and eating habits after seeing those sickening sites. I really wanted to be a part of this champaign, but will continue it alone!!!!

  • Hi, sorry it's me again.

    Just noticed some spelling mistakes.

However, had great response from people who know me. Maybe, we can all campaign together!!!!
