Stopping production in Japan, no word on UK as yet

Sony has announced in Japan that it is to discontinue the 20GB and 60GB models as soon as stock has been depleted.

The move will mean Japanese consumers will only be able to by the 40GB and 80GB models of the console.

Sony announced a 40GB version of the console last year in the UK offering a cheaper entry price, but at the cost of no PS2 compatibility and the lost of the memory card reader.

No word as to whether the 60GB will be discontinued here, however at time of writing Play.com still had units in stock.

We will keep you posted.
