Sony has taken to Twitter to extol the benefits of wearable computing, hinting that a new version of its SmartWatch could be inbound. It has mentioned the Mobile Asia Expo in Shanghai next week for the venue for the more-than-likely reveal.
Several tweets have appeared on the Sony Xperia account with the hashtags #itstime and #MAE13. One includes a teaser picture under the bold statement: "1/3 smartphone users want smart wrist wear." It refers to results from a BI Intelligence 2013 survey.
Another says: "We launched the world's first 'smart' watch in 2007." While a third shows a picture of a Walkman strapped to a waistband with the words: "Wearable tech is in our DNA. Remember Walkman, now...?"
The clearest hint yet, however, is the posting of a picture of a SmartWatch device under the words, "Tick-tock, tick-tock, tick-tock". Not exactly vague.
Sony plans to host media events around Europe starting next week too. Hopefully it will be bringing the new SmartWatch to these shores for Pocket-lint to have a play with. We'll keep you informed.
